Community reacts to 'devastating news' of Thamesteel going into administration


Over 400 jobs at risk as Thamesteel calls in administrators. Union vows to work with anybody to save our steel.

Reacting to reportsthat Thamesteel in Sheerness is going into administration, Michael Leahy,General Secretary of Community said:

“This isdevastating news for everybody who works at Thamesteel and for the widercommunity in Sheerness.  Communitybelieves that Sheerness steelmaking can have a future and we will be doing allwe can to save our steel in the coming weeks and months. 

"We will also ensure that our members’ rightsare upheld at this difficult time.

“Once theadministrators are appointed, we are willing to work with them to deepen andwiden the search for an investor and we want to work with anybody who wants togive Thamesteel a future.  Any investor whodid come forward would find a proud and committed workforce dedicated tocontinuing production at the UK’sfirst mini-mill.”
