The closure of Pedmore Automotive is indicative of a ‘sick economy’ says Community Union. Community Union understands that the closure of Pedmore Automotive is driven by a desire to sell the land out from underneath the factory. The loss of the site at Sunrise Business Park on Wollaston Road in Stourbridge places 39 workers at risk of redundancy.
Community Union has begun consultation with the company and will be seeking to protect the position of its members on site. The union may seek enhanced redundancy packages from any windfall the company may receive through the sale of land.
Community Union Regional Director Rob Edwards said:
‘Once again manufacturing in Britain is being crippled by speculators seeking short term gains. It highlights the sickness inherent in the unbalanced British economy. If it is the case that a profitable business is being destroyed in order for someone to hit the land speculation jackpot, I think it is fair for the employees being thrown out of work to ask for additional compensation.’
