The pension scheme continues to remain an issue of concern for many members. It is having an impact upon staff morale. We understand that this issue does not affect all members or staff but we know it is just one example of a number of employment issues facing NSPCC staff at the moment.
Final Salary Pension Update
Community asked for further clarification on the Actuaries report on the final salary pension scheme that had been promised by Ian Chivers to Community from a consultation meeting in July 2009.
Pension Report released to Community by the NSPCC
“The initial estimate from Mercers is in deficit of £12.9 million which will require the society to contribute the £2 million per annum as a recovery plan as per earlier proposal (we also have to finance the ongoing costs of running the scheme out of our £2 million which reduces the net annual contribution to the deficit to nearer £1.5 million). Mercers plan to issue their final report in November/ December”
In light of this information Community feel that the decision to close the final salary pension scheme has been taken prematurely, as this figure is substantially smaller than the figure mooted by the society during the consultation.
Community contacted Ian Chivers to request that further consultation be entered into with view to finding an amicable solution. This was declined and subsequently notice to close the scheme has been issued to you individually.
As previously stated, Community will be seeking legal advice on this issue early in the New Year and will contact with you when we have further clarification.
