Workers at Carrington Wire under threat

Yorkshire based wire company enters redundancy consultation

The workforce at Carrington Wire, the Yorkshire based metalworking company is under threat of redundancy today as the employer formally enters the redundancy notice period.

Facing a failing economic position Carrington Wire has been forced to consider either the sale of the business or the closure of the plant. The closure of the plant would require up to 85 compulsory redundancies.

Community Union has entered the mandatory 30 day redundancy consultation period with the company, but will be seeking to extend that period while the possibility of the sale of the business exists.

Community Union Campaigns Officer David Martin said:

‘This is obviously a difficult time for the workforce. The company has been on the ropes for a number of years and has relied on the dedication and commitment of the workforce to survive thus far.

Management are currently seeking a new owner for the company which would prevent the need for redundancies. This is an option that has the full support of Community Union and we are doing everything we can to expedite a potential sale.

Community Union will continue to defend the rights of our members at Carrington Wire and support all efforts to secure their jobs.’
