No training, just new responsibilities

There is no protection for staff who are either not trained, single manning against their will in busy shops or who cannot see the faces of young people entering the shop and using gambling machines…
Is there any other job that is scrutinised this much where the buck stops with overworked and unsupported staff?

It's too hard to judge a person by their 'age'. I'm 21 myself, and find it hard to judge people who look similar or older than I do, and sometimes they are only just 18.

We are been judged on our own perception of peoples age. This is wrong. People who try to gamble and are underage should be the ones being punished.

I believe a Think 25 policy should be put in place as so many teenagers today are very difficult to determine if they are under 21.

A kneejerk re-action from senior management, who find it easier to target staff than the problem itself. Nothing was done within the industry as a whole until the gambling commission threatened sanctions.

Trouble with FOBT machines. FOBT becomes a issue with underage gambling. You get people under 18 trying to play them.

We are being asked to police Think21! without any conflict training. How do you deal with someone who you suspect of being under 18 who refuses to leave and when you call the police they tell you that they are not bouncers.

It’s hard to enforce when you’re left to single man most of the day and have to keep up with your daily duties. You can’t always be aware if someone sneaks in and ignores your requested for ID. What can you do when on your own in the shop?

It's a nightmare. What was once a pleasant job has turned bad. You are told to get them when they enter the shop, but if you are busy with customers and have queues you can't even see anything else. Every shop should have a doorman now with all the things we have to look out for!!!

I think that Think21! does NOT work...
Now we have threats of violence on a daily basis often needing police assistance…

Additional pressure on staff is unreasonable. Signage in office is inadequate and methods used by employer is unfair. Onus should be customer oriented.
