Community forges link with third sector
Last month saw Community become the first trade union member of Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR), the area’s largest infrastructure organisation for the community and voluntary sector. Community’s Union Modernisation Fund project, based in Regions 3 and 6, is working with third sector organisations in order to address vulnerable work issues with Community members and for community organisation’s service users. The UMF team have forged the link with VAR in order to strengthen knowledge and relationships between the union and the third sector.
“Becoming a member of VAR allows us to learn more about not just VAR itself, but about all of the work being done in the community and voluntary sector in Rotherham,” says UMF project officer Lucy Hopley. “We are also able to get information about Community and our activities publicised to the community and voluntary sector through VAR’s huge network of members.”
As a member of VAR, Community now has access to training, information and advice which can be accessed by all its members in the area. For more information about the UMF project or about VAR, please contact Lucy Hopley (lhopley@community-tu.org).
