An end of year letter from Regional Director Heather Meldrum
Dear Member,
2009 has seen Community working at every level on your behalf – from Local to National and International – getting your points across.
During 2009 Community took a firm line on the Corus decision to withhold bonuses, this tough stance resulted in our members receiving their rightful bonus.
Community also represented our members strongly over threats to the pension scheme. Defending the scheme and prevented any premature action which may have led to our members become deferred pensioners, unable to access their pension until age 65.
During 2010 our campaigns will continue, not least our fight to Save Our Steel on Teesside. The National Trade Union Steel Co-ordinating Committee has secured agreement for a joint taskforce to examine every option to save Teesside. This taskforce will also help to manage the stand down process and oversee the consultation process.
The General Secretary met with Secretary of State for Business Lord Mandelson last week to discuss Teesside and will continue to press Government for more support.
Your Union, Community, has not given up the fight. It is absolutely vital that we work together at all levels to find lasting sustainable solutions, combine that with the determination and commitment of our members and staff in both regional and head office means your jobs and concerns are top of our priority.
Teesside has been at the Heart of British industry for over a hundred years and it is not yet time to turn off the light.
It is important that we get information directly to you as soon as possible; therefore I would appreciate it if you could let us have your home email address and mobile phone number. These details will not be passed onto anyone else – we just want to be able to contact you directly as soon as we have updated information on the situation.
Please feel free leave your details, comments or messages on www. Community-tu.org or on our freephone number: 0800 389 6332 alternatively you can contact me directly on 07713 509 187
Yours in Unity
