What is National Action Week?
National Action Week is an annual event dedicated to involving all staff, branch officials and members in a union wide recruitment drive.
From the General Secretary down, National Action Week will involve all sections of the union, including Communitas, the Member Service Centre (MSC), and both Regional and Head Office staff.
When is it?
The first annual National Action Week was held in the first week of September 2008. The date for National Action Week 2009 has yet to be confirmed.
What happens?
Each part of Community develops a plan to reach out to potential members and share the benefits of Community membership.
In our recognised workplaces, Community members and staff will often arrange to have a stall in a staff canteen or organise trained staff to host surgeries and provide posters and pamphlets for our members to distribute.
In unrecognised workplaces, Community organises staff and member volunteers to speak directly to employees, asking if they know their legal rights at work and explaining how Community protects these rights.
Community is also active in local communities, holding shopping centre stalls and supporting events such as 'Love Music/ Hate Racism' festival.
All staff and members are encouraged to get involved with what’s being organised and signing up new members in their own workplaces or communities.
Why are we doing this?
As a union we are strongest when we are representing a majority of workers.
To ensure this we need to boost our recruitment effort in areas we currently represent, while targeting new workplaces and contacting potential members.
Coming Soon
Community will be posting photos and write ups of National Action Week.
Let Community know when you've changed address, so we can keep you up-to-date with news, events and action in your workplace
