What is the political fund?
The political fund is made up of small contributions from every member to allow the union the resources to take action on issues outside your workplace. Having a political fund allows Community to carry out political campaigns on issues such as Pensions or rights for Temporary and Agency workers and gives the union a greater chance to influence political decisions in the interests of our members and their communities.
20p per week from each member ensures that their voices are heard from the Scottish Executive to the Welsh Assembly, from Westminster to the European Parliament.
What is the Community stand on industrial action?
Community can only support industrial action in workplaces where a majority of Community members have voted to commence Industrial action.
Industrial action does not always mean strike action; it can be overtime bans or working to rule.
Community will always work to negotiate equitable settlements between employees and employers but understands that in some cases industrial action is required to protect the rights of members.
However, Community cannot force members to take industrial action or go on strike if they vote not to take action.
Who cancels my Standing Order for BUSWE at my bank?
It is up to, you, the member to cancel your Standing Order at your bank. The Community Union can not contact your bank on your behalf.
What should I do if I have paid my union contributions a year in advance?
If you have paid a year in advance, for example, you may have paid in November 2007, this means that you are then covered to November 2008. When your year’s membership is due to expire the Union’s membership department will contact you to renew your membership at the special rate of £10.62 a month* payable by direct Debit. If you would like to continue paying annually then you can do so by contacting us and sending a cheque.
