Community has raised the issue of the loss of premium rates at the highest level. Currently a motion is before parliament on this issue at Holyrood.

Dear Member of Scottish Parliament,

Subject: Support Motion S3M-04049 Betfred Stop the Cuts:

I am writing to you as my constituency MSP regarding my concern at the action of Betfred bookmakers. Betfred has implemented a process to eliminate staff Terms and Conditions of employment as outlined in the motion. This process has been undertaken without consultation and the compensation package if accepted leaves staff with a considerable short fall in year one and all remaining years. Furthermore correspondence is being issued stating failure to comply will result in the Company issuing termination of contracts by the required statutory notice.

All of the above comes at a time when the Company is currently exceeding revenues of £1 Billion and only this month is reported to have pumped £4 m worth of sponsorship into the World Snooker Championship.

It is a disgrace that Companies during theses current difficult economic times, can without challenge or fear of repercussion target vulnerable hard working families in this way. This decision has quite simply been taken with no compassion or care for the direct impact it will have on family budgets or family home life.

That is why I applaud the effort of Community Union. To raise awareness of this issue, Motion S3M-04049 Betfred Stop the Cuts has been laid by John Park MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife. As a member of your constituency and a betting shop worker, I would urge you to support and sign the Motion.
