Corus negotiations update

30 Apr 2008
Community held Discussions with Corus on Monday 28th April

Community has opened negotiations with Corus on pay, terms and conditions for Strip and Long Products. Meeting in the East Midlands, Corus responded to the claim that Community had lodged previously.

Pay

As negotiations are on-going, we are unable to discuss the pay offer from Corus. However, Community has stated that it believes that Corus employees have a legitimate claim to a ‘real’ pay rise; a pay rise above the rate of inflation.

Community will continue to argue that an above inflation pay increase should be a part of any agreement.

Corus have made some concessions in the other areas of the claim that Community presented.

National Learning Agreement

Corus have agreed to create a working group to consider the feasibility of a National Learning Agreement.

Community have made the case for National Learning Agreements as they would provide our members with pathways for advancement within Corus and in the wider workforce.

Terms & Conditions

Corus have accepted the need to review the terms and conditions of Strip and Long products employees. A working party has been proposed to examine harmonising terms & conditions across Corus. While Community supports this as a positive development Community will be seeking to enhance terms & conditions in a number of significant areas including;

Hours of work,

Holiday entitlement,

Healthcare provision, and

Family friendly policies

Community will continue to meet with Corus to further negotiations. Check back soon for regular updates.
