Attack on Plants and Jobs

Attacks on Plants and Jobs

Community has in recent years greatly deepened the extent of consultation with top managers about the future of the company in the United Kingdom and globally on the strength of detailed analysis and study of European and world developments. The union has recruited professional advice in this. Community took the lead in drawing up an information and consultation agreement which has strengthened arrangements for jointly tackling employment problems and increasing competitiveness. The impact of restructuring on employees has been minimised and our representations have contributed to the decisions of Corus to invest in the UK, to maintain overall levels of employment, and to keep existing plant.

Recently, there have been clear signs of a move by management to cut capacity and employment in the UK and Community is again taking the lead in defending jobs and plant and working for a sustainable and substantial steel industry in Britain.
