ETUC - European Trade Union Confederation

The ETUC represents over 60 million workers across Europe

As Europe began to intergrate, adopting a single currency and a parliament, it became clear that to defend and bargain for their members effectively at national level, national TUC's and their component unions had to coordinate activities and policies across Europe. To influence the economy and society at large, they need to speak with a single voice and act collectively at European level.

The ETUC was established in 1973 to represent the workers of Europe. It is a collective of 82 national Trade Union Confederations and represents over 60 million members.

As an affiliate to the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Community is affiliated to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).

The ETUC works to protect your rights.

European legislation can effect your rights in the workplace. The ETUC work to ensure that regulations from the European Parliament reinforce worker protections and improve worker conditions.

The ETUC is one of the European social partners and is recognised by the European Union and by the Council of Europe.

The ETUC works with the European President, Council, Commission and Parliament to improve the conditions of all workers in Europe. The mission of the ETUC is to promote the European Social Model, which is a strategy to promote economic growth while supporting improving living and working standards, including full employment, social protection, equal opportunities, good quality jobs, social inclusion, and an open and democratic policy-making process that involves citizens fully in the decisions that affect them.
