General Secretary's Welcome

For some 25 years NSPCC recognised the BUSWE union for the purpose of Collective bargaining. That is to say that NSPCC has negotiated with BUSWE on your pay, holidays and on your general terms and conditions of employment.

Recently BUSWE members voted overwhelmingly, some 90%, to join with

Community Trade Union and the new union therefore is now the union recognised by NSPCC to negotiate on behalf of staff.

The plans to integrate the unions are at an advanced stage and the leaderships of BUSWE and Community are very excited at the obvious potential to organise workers throughout NSPCC and to give staff a genuine say in the future of the organisation.

General Secretary Michael J Leahy, OBEMichael J. Leahy , OBE General Secretary of Community asserted that:

As General Secretary I would like to welcome you and all BUSWE members into the Community family. Community’s core values and key messages have clearly resonated with BUSWE’s members and we are convinced that this explains why so many voted in favour of joining with Community. “

Community offers a first class service for our members. We believe – in terms of individual representation, negotiating your terms and conditions of employment and organising workers – Community’s membership support is unrivalled amongst trade unions. We hope you and your BUSWE colleagues will actively participate in Community and help ensure that we continually improve the services we offer to current and future members of the union.”

Harry Lyons, until recently the acting General Secretary of BUSWE pointed out that:

“Community has clearly demonstrated why it should be the union of choice for all staff at NSPCC. Community has a unique focus and as a NSPCC worker your union is dedicated to providing you with an excellent service, supporting members and their families not just in the workplace but in their own communities”.
