Corus Community Issue 1, December 2007
Dear Member,
Welcome to ‘Corus Community’ a new newsletter from your union to all Community members employed by Corus.
Don’t worry, you’ll still receive the union magazine, Stronger Together. ‘Corus Community’ is a dedicated newsletter which will focus on the specific challenges facing workers at Corus. Corus Community is a result of a decision by the National Executive Council of Community, who resolved that the challenges facing our members employed by Corus required a dedicated response. The terms and conditions which Community has built up over the years are at risk.
Members need to be aware of these threats to their takehome pay, pensions and bonuses. In this issue, you will find information about:
- - How Community is repulsing threats to the British Steel Pension Scheme
- - Proposals to change the bonus system to disadvantage employees
- - Attacks on jobs and production capacity in the United Kingdom
- - Corus’ attempts to undermine the union through the Positive People Company
- - The union is also leading the efforts to maintain the competitiveness of British steel production while improving pay and conditions and contributing to the achievement of the curbing and reduction of global warming gases.
Community has worked with the management of the company since 2003 to increase productivity and ensure a competitive British Steel industry. The success of this partnership has resulted in investment in plants and retention of employees around the country. If management decide to reverse this policy, Community will be there to campaign for the jobs rights of our members.
I urge all members to speak to their branch officials to find out how they can participate in union activities.
Sincerely,

Corus Community Volume 1 Issue 1
