Community Union responds to proposed redundancies in Corus Tubes
Corus UK have announced proposals for 146 redundancies across the Corus Tubes Business Unit. Plans require 56 jobs are to go at Corby, 49 in Hartlepool and a further 41 in the Netherlands.
Community Union National Officer Roy Rickhuss said:
“Today’s announcement by Corus that there will be widespread redundancies within Corus Tubes is disappointing and sad news coming as it does at a difficult time across the economy. Community Union will do everything in its power, through the consultation period, to work with the company to save jobs where they can be saved and to help those affected through this difficult time.
‘We were aware that this restructuring had been included in the Corus business plan for some time and it is not a knee-jerk reaction to the current economic climate.
“Support for these workers will be available from Community’s education and training arm, Communitas, to help with retraining and find new employment.”
