Rotherham launch of Save Our Steel Campaign

On Friday 3 July Community, along with local MPs Denis MacShane and John Healey, launched the Save Our Steel Campaign in Rotherham town centre.

The launch was extremely well attended with over a hundred Corus workers present (despite the terrible weather!), and more than 300 signatures were collected on a petition to demand that the government do more to safeguard the future of the UK’s steel industry.

Members of the public demonstrated their willingness to show solidarity with the steelworkers and the local steel industry.

The campaign gathered pace the next day at the South Yorkshire Festival, held at Wortley Hall, with hundreds more signatures added to the petition.

If you would like to add your signature to the petition you can do so this Friday and Saturday (10 and 11 July), 10:30 – 12:30 in Rotherham Town Centre, by College Street entrance to markets.

The campaign is supported by Rotherham CLP, the Trades Council, and also the church.
