Victory for Glencraft Workers
The workforce led the campaign with help from Community and local politicians. Today saw a relaunch of the Glencraft logo and tomorrow there will be an open day at the factory.
Community Union Regional Director Heather Meldrum said:
"Today’s event is a great tribute to the Glencraft workers. Our members never gave up the fight against the council’s cuts and today is confirmation that they ran the right campaign.”
Aberdeen South MP, Anne Begg said:
“This is wonderful news for all the staff at Glencraft, who I know have worked so hard to prove that the factory can be run as a sustainable business."
North East Regional MSP Richard Baker said:
“I am delighted that Glencraft has been saved from the brink of closure. It is testament to the efforts of all the Glencraft staff and the trade union Community in making such a strong case for keeping Glencraft open."
Aberdeen
"Now the City council has been forced to recognise the strength of the case for keeping Glencraft open. Glencraft can now go from strength to strength."
The Royal Aberdeen Workshops for the Blind and Disabled has been established since 1843 providing training, support and employment for employees with both Physical and Learning Disabilities and also Mental Health Issues.
The staff at Glencraft take great pride in the products they produce.
They manufacture excellent quality Mattresses and Beds and buy in from other manufacturers bedroom furniture which they sell in their showroom.
They also have a highly skilled workforce of re-upholstery staff who lovingly bring back to life your favourite pieces of furniture.
