Job Description
The Campaign Manager will be an advocate for the union’s vision of empowering and enabling our communities to actively challenge injustice and to deliver a constantly advancing quality of life for our members through implementing Community’s organising strategy and education programme.
The Campaign Manager’s key aim and responsibility will be that of recruitment of new members and organising, to co-ordinate campaign activities within the region to maximise recruitment opportunities. In addition to this a committed and strategic approach must be shown in retaining our existing membership. The main focus is therefore on Organising, Recruitment and Retention to meet the national and regional targets in line with the overall national strategy all of which should encompass and raise the profile of Community.
Developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the workplace in order to promote sustainable partnerships, establishing links with community organisations to advance the ethos of Community unionism.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
- A committed and strategic approach to Organising, Recruitment and Retention in order to increase membership for Community
- Securing a high profile for Community within the Region, through the provision of services and campaign activities
- Strong working relationships with all of Community’s stakeholders both externally and internally
Main areas of responsibility and activities:
- Maintain and increase membership and retention levels.
- Deliver effective organising campaigns and union activity; promote the vision of the union, its campaigns and activities, so as to ensure the profile of the union is successfully projected in the workplace, to stakeholders and the wider community.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the workplace in order to promote sustainable partnerships, establishing links with community organisations to advance the ethos of Community unionism with the ultimate goal of increased membership
- Develop and sustain links with outside organisations
- Implement and advance the Union’s political strategy
- Maintain and increase the number of members that are represented by lay Reps
- Maintain and increase the number of trained and competent activists.
- To liaise with branches and identify any shortfalls to ensure Community Branch Officials are self sufficient in delivering the needs and requirements of our members. To ensure that all Branch Officials are well trained to a minimum standard in order to achieve that objective.
- Ensure that all members are provided with appropriate representation and advice.
- Provide leadership for collective negotiations and ensure Community’s policies are pursued and organising opportunities are maximised.
- Increase the number of collective negotiations undertaken by lay Reps.
- Participate in and contribute to conferences and seminars on issues relevant to the union as and when appropriate.
- Contribute to the unions internal education programme as and when required.
- Develop and maintain good communications with both internal and external contacts.
- Meet specific organisational key performance indicators.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records.
- Continuously develop and review core responsibilities and duties to improve outcomes.
- Carry out other duties as deemed appropriate to the role by the Regional Director/ Deputy General Secretary/ General Secretary, which may include some national responsibilities from time to time.

SPECIAL FEATURES
The Campaign Manager will be expected to work in a flexible way and to carry out duties commensurate with the responsibility of the post as may be reasonably requested from time to time. The duties will require working flexible hours.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Campaign Manager
The Campaign Manager will be required to demonstrate evidence of relevant knowledge, skills and experience:
- Ability to demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of organising concepts to meet specific recruitment, organising and bargaining targets and objectives.
- Ability to identify, support, mentor, develop and motivate lay reps and activists.
- Ability to represent union members at senior level collective negotiations.
- Understanding of basic employment law related to TU membership and employment rights
- Have an understanding of union recognition legislation and procedures.
- Must be proficient with the use of IT packages used within Community
- Must show commitment to Community’s Education & Training programme
- Ability to fully utilise information technology systems and applications in relation to organising / representing members and potential members.
- Maintain awareness of and ensure health and safety laws and practices are observed across Community premises and activities throughout the region
- Excellent written and oral skills
- An understanding of Community’s commitment to equal opportunities and valuing diversity, and the ability to translate this into action.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work flexibly and under pressure.
- Full Driving Licence is essential but reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants.
