Transcript of 3rd day of Conference

Thursday 29th May Bournemouth International Centre

 

There was a presentation to Deputy General Secretary Peter Crowe, who is due to retire before the next conference in 2010.

This was followed by a vote of thanks to President Keren Bender for chairing conference and the General Secretary's closing remarks.

Conference closed around 1ish.


Motion 20 was moved by John Saunders and seconded by Ian Crichton. The motion was passed.

11:27 The conference begins an extended debate on Columbia.


11:20 Conference resumes with a statement from Dean Apps, Community organiser and former NLBD branch secretary.

Dean explains that a sheltered employment factory has announced that it will be closing.

Dean has asked conference to support the campaign to keep the factory open.


Roy Rickhuss spoke to Chapter 10 - Education.


After motion 19, Communications Officer Duncan Harrod introduced chapter 6 - Communicating Community.

There was one other speaker to the chapter.

After Rob Johnson of the IMF, the General Secretary introduced Chapter 13 - Community in the International Trade Union Community

Then was the debate on Motion 19 - Removal of British Troops from Iraq. The mover was Jim Sinclair and the seconder was Patricia Sheperd from Region 1.

There were quite a few other speakers, quite passionate speakers whose names I will find later.

The NEC response was delivered by Joe Mann asking for remittance. The mover refused to remit the moton and it was put to a vote.

The motion was not accepted by the conference

Now the General Secretary is presenting Ian Crichton with a Steel Man Award for his sterling service to the union.
